50" Plasma or wait for 62" 1080p DLP?

I'm having a hard time with the decision. Viewing distance in the room it will be in is about 13.5 feet and the room has a fair amount of light during the daytime. I was pretty much set on waiting and getting the Toshiba 62" DLP but I can get the 720P HD plasma for a very good price. The 50" looks so much smaller in the store but everyone says that they look much bigger at home in your typical family room.

If I do go with the plasma are there things that can go wrong with them that make the extended warranties a must have? I have been pretty focused on DLPs where it is worthwhile due to the lamp replacement. Also we have a lot of pets so I am wondering if pet hair might be a potential problem with a DLP system.

My brother has the 61" Samsung 1080p and loves it.

I was looking at the Toshiba in the AVSForum.com forums and several people complained about a second fan (besides the lamp fan) that runs 24/7. Something to check out for yourself, since some people are more sensitive to noise than others.

Get a projector.

+ room darkening shades ftw

She who must be obeyed when it comes to decor would not go for that I think. 😱 Eventually (1 year maybe) the set will be in the basement assuming I get it finished which will be a true cave since the end that the family room would be in is 80% underground with only 2 slit type windows. That would be an ideal room for a projection system.

In the room we use now for watching TV the set will be opposite 3 windows but they are on the back of the house and face NNE so no direct sunlight comes in. We do have blinds on them but there is some glare on my current CRT TV during the day.
