really good deal, but why would one need 50 cd-rw's - you can't read them in many normal cd-rom drives, and neither can you in cd players

pinky811,

Nope, not an online deal. I thought it might have been a pricing error, but they both rang up $9.99. BTW, they are both CompUSA branded discs.

Hey duke, thanks a lot for the help. I am going to CompUSA in an hour or so. Just courious, how come the 74 minutes cost the same as 80 minutes? is one of them suppose to be CDR and not CDRW?

Compusa CD-RW/CDR
You can try to order them online, or check the stock in the local stores through

http://www.compusa.com/products/products.asp?prodzip=&srch_type=catg2&category_id=118
(or www.compusa.com -> Accessories -> Data Media, look about 1/2 down, under FMI).
I'm not sure how accurate the stock on hand is, and if you order them to be delievered, it says the delivery is fulfilled by the local stores, and there is a $2.00 delivery fee, but it appears to let you order online.

Wedesdo, You may need new software, I burn CDs (from my own collection of course) that work just fine in the car and in my home CD player and on my reg. CD drive on my PC. EZ CD Creator Pro does the trick just fine.

It depends on the CD player, not the software. The material used for CDRW has different reflective property than CD, many old CD players cannot read it.

just got back from Compusa, and couldn't find the 50pack 4x 80min...
only saw 50pack 4x 74 min for 9.99 and 50pack 2x 74min for 9.99...so i bought two 50pack 4x 74min instead...how come i don't see the 80min on the site either?

That's true, it doesn't matter if you use EZCD Creator Pro or whatever, it's the CD itself that'll determine whether or not it can be played in your player or not. I haven't had too much luck with music on CDRWs being playable on my CD players. :|

My settop Pioneer DVD player reads audio CD-RW so this is great. Got couple of spindles for 20$. I like CD-RW better for data/game disks. I can erase what I don't need and reuse the disk.

I've burned on ~15 of these, out of two spindles. No problems with them for data yet. I've reburned on a couple, have swapped them back and forth on two desktops and one laptop, with no hesitations. Using two Plex burners, two Plex readers, and, I think the laptop cd-rom is a year old Toshiba. So far all have burned at 4X on the Plex's.

They work in my Sony juke, but not in a friend's car player. I don't use 'em for audio anyway.

The Comp I went to had these almost hidden away, beside the others. It seems like the shelf tag was a little different & I think maybe older. I do remember having to match up the SKU's to be sure I had the right ones. It did not appear to be a weekly sale item. Just appeared to be the normal shelf price.

These CD-RWs are made by CMC... Not the best quality. Same dudes that made those el cheapo gold/green 10 pack CD-Rs for Fry's Electronics (dunno about now). High coaster rate for some people. But shouldn't be a problem for CD-RWs as you can always format them.

Got the last 80min spindle at my local CompUSA (Santa Clara)! Still bunch of 74x CD-RW packs. Wonder if these will write fine at 8x even though labeled as 4x.

I wonder what type of reflective surface they have. I have a big problem with the generic cdrs from CompUSA, the silver coating flakes really bad. I have a pack of the 20 CDRW CompUSA brand and they work great for everything. Let me know.

Went to CompUSA today....

They didn't have any 80 minute CD-RW 50 packs, but had two CD-RW 74 min 50 packs. Took it up to the register, $9.99, plus tax...

Interestingly they also had LOTS of 74 min 25 packs for the same price.

:)

EDIT: Tried to burn a bunch of data at 4x, seemed to work great....
These CD-RWs are like 20 cents each.. :) :) :) :) :)

Why the hell I'm always out of luck !
just came back from my local Compusa (San Bruno), not even a single pack was there.
Saw 100 packs 12x cdr for like $29.99 and 50 packs 12x for $19.99.......not a good deal at all.

I picked up a couple of the 80 minuters as well. The store by my house was pretty well stocked with these things. They must have had 50 boxes of the 74's, and about 20 of the 80's.....:)
