Is this legit ? This site gives a whole rundown of how to get electronics for more than half off. It involves some AMEX pricematching and a bunch of things so if anyone can verify this or has done this, it would be cool to get electronics for cheap.

Linky link!

IMHO this does test the ethical waters since it amounts to "double dipping" on the "best price guarantee". Kind of like being paid twice by your insurance company for the same accident. Why not also sign up for the ZDnet pricematch service and triple your return? Personally I feel a little queasy about it. I predict these other "price match" programs (MyPoints, ZD) will eventually catch on and probably refuse to pricematch anything bought with an AMEX card...

Yeah, it would be...I just wish that Anandtech would catch on and have a forum for deals like that, and then maybe we could get some cool electronics cheap here too.

</sarcasm off>

This will probably get locked, since it leads to a referral link, and the subject has been covered repeatedly.

Hmm Double Dipping, Didn't your moms teach you not to do that?

DIp the chip once, Dip again with a new chip, Double Dip and sooner or later you'll get caught n be punished/embarrased!

Long before Al Gore invented the Internet and AE gave out a card to any schmuck who could write, there has been a two tiers consumer pricing for imported electronics. One could shop at local merchants or by telephone , order for example a SLR camera, buy at a fair price, and know the manufacturer stood behind what you bought. But, the downsize was that many manufacturers strictly limited the vendors who could buy and sell their imports. Let call this a little of Japan in America.

Sorry, Americans don't like to be f*** around like that and few of us are greedy by nature. A trade developed in bringing in electronics to the U.S. that too often was not intented to be sold. One could locate these deals by shopping at certain stores in NYC or by reading a paper like the The Village Voice. The manufacturers reaction, even to today's web bargains, is we won't stand behind what they sold.

As I knock AE before, the company IMHO is ran by fools. I guess the plan is to get many folks to run up charges and sell a boatload of add-ons, e.g. credit insurance.

greggish- did we pass?
flomokev- thats exactly the plan, you cant imagine how much they make in transaction fees every day...not to mention only a small percentage of people use the pricematch service since most people are impulse as opposed to bargain shoppers.

it looks like zdnet and mypoints are the same program which might be why you can't use both of them. but i don't see how amex and mypoints would have a problem. aren't you allowed to have multiple life insurance policies cover you ? so wouldn't this be ok too ?

They already have "caught on". Effiective 1/1/2002, Webloyality the broker and Cynosure Financial the underwriter for MyPoints, ZDnet Buyer's Assurance and others is once again modifying the terms and conditions of their service without prior notice..

No more claims against purchases that are paid for with a CC that already has a purchase protection plan
No more claims for cash of GC purchases.
Mandatory two CC billing cycle wait before your claim will be approved.

Previous changes on 11/18/2001

Reduced the per claim limit from $250 to $100
Increased the yearly claim limit from $1000 to $2000
Added the requirement that you must provide your entire CC billing statement for the month in which the charge that you are claiming a price protection claim occurred as well as the following month.
