System

CPU: Pentium 4 2.4Ghz 800mhz FSB
MOBO: Abit IS7
RAM: 2x512MB Kingston PC3500 HyperX
VIDEO: Radeon 9500 Pro
PS: To be determined
HD: WD 100GB 8MB cache 7200 RPM, WD 60GB 5400RPM 2MB cache
CDROM: Sony 48x24x48x CDRW
Fans: 3 Panaflo fans (2 3pin and 1 4pin).
Future Expansion: Remove 60GB, add 2 more 120GB & up 7200rpm hds, new vid card in a year, light overclocking.

With those specs in mind, what would be a recommended power supply for the above price range? I tried the Allied True 450W and it didn't work out of the box, this is why I'm looking for another power supply. I was considering the Antec SL400 as well, any recommendations would be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I would get the best Antec True Power PSU that can fit in your price range. The True Powers are very nice and will handle your system nicely.

The have 330W, 380W, 430W, and up. I think the 330W should be enough for your system but the 380W will give you a little more headroom especially for overclocking and future additions. If you are willing to spend $40 more or so, you can get the 380W in the Antec Sonata case which is VERY nice and elegant, not to mention very quiet. I'm using the case and I love it, it even has an automotive finish along with a single fan PSU instead of the dual fan you'll buy seperately! You should look into the Sonata case if you want a nice case as well, depending on what you have right now.

Basically, the 330W PSU should do it but the 380W will give future room to add on and a little quieter usage because the 380W doesn't have to work as hard as the 330W for say, 290W. Because the 330W will be at around 90% usage while the 380W will be much lower, approximately. And if you have the extra money, the Antec Sonata will be great.

Antec TruePower 330. It's around $55-60 shipped. Powering an overclocked AMD system with 4 HD's and 2 Optical drives with it for over 6 months.

I got 2 of these Achieve 550 Watt PS from SVC one of which is in service in my Dad's Server powering a 1.4ghz Tbird, TT Volcano 6cu+, Ata 133 Raid card, 4x WD 1200JB, 1x 1000JB, Geforce 2Ti, Intel Pro 1000XT, SB Live! Plat. (orginal version), 1x 12xNEC DVD Rom, 1x 32x Lite-on CDRW, 3x 80mm LED Case Fans, and 1x 120mm LED Case Fan, even under full load The PS holds its rails well within spec, I have the 2nd one on the shelf in case the first one goes, and since they are so cheap I could just buy 2 and have a backup in case the first one failed, but in any event it seems like a quality supply even if it's a not so great brand name. Just my 2 cents and Hope this helps.... :)

Edit: FYI this are only $32.99

I'm telling you..get the Fortron/Source Group 350W/400W at newegg. You will NEVER regret it. This is the best value PSU.
