I remember that. It was my freshman year at college. My school held a candlelight vigil because of it.

The students didn't mean to be insensitive. It was supposed to be a joke. They were just ordinary, average guys, having a bit of fun.

I don't believe that one bit. Those were not average guys. Maybe it's just where I'm from, but 'average' people are not so damn discompassionate. The 'average' person does not need to be told that it's not a funny joke.

Dorkboy, you're an apathetic POS.

I read about that lady Genovese in my English class. So sad. Also very sad what happend to Matthew. I do believe they caught the guys who did that to him and they're serving a term in prison.

I beleive his mother gives speaches around the country at univeristies and high schools to bring awareness. I beleive she was originally supposed to speak at LSU back on Spet 11, 2001 but due to the circumstances of that day she didn't speak, not sure if it was ever rescheduled.

Is it true this is the story "The Laramie Project" is based off of? Im hopefully going to see the play soon.

Yep, I think HBO even did a movie on it.

i think it was a play. The Laramie Project.
or maybe it was a documentary turned into a play...
something like that.

The play was performed at the university I attend. The "God Hates F@gs" group decided to honor Central Washington University with its foul, stinking presence. If ever there was a time for those legendary words, "Kill yourself," it was then. :|
