Well, I never intended to upgrade my Dual G5 only two years after buying it, but the specs on this new Pro were to darn tempting.

See my signature for the specs.. but it's going to be a well equipped machine when it gets here. I'll set up a Window XP drive on one drive, and use the other two in a RAID for my DV and Photoshop work.. and replace the 160GB in bay one with a Raptor for my boot/system drive.. I got 4x1GB, with plans to take it to 8GB with in a year..

The X1900XT will do, until the 1950 or something faster is out.. as I don't want to be GPU limited when I do my 3D apps/games.

Now to figure out how to get XP installed and all of the drivers... Only for the gaming, as nothing else windows has to offer is of interest to me.

I don't really want a 30" for the space I work in... I won't turn one away for free or anything, but it's just not needed. I grew up with 15" CRT's so these day's a 20 or 23 is HUGE for me.. I'm more interested in Raw power.

As for the system..

From Apple

3.0 CPU
4GB RAM (after market options weren't a bargain enough for the hassle)
160GB Drive (being sold off)
ATI X1900XT 512
AppleCare
Bluetooth Keyboard/Mouse
80211.G (Airport Extreme card).
(Free 2GB ipod mini)
Misc Software

From local "build-a-PC" store

3 x Hitachi 500GB 16MB Buffer SATA (two will be in RAID 0, and one as storage drive)
1 x Western Digital Raptor 74GB (will be formated as the boot/applications drive)

total cost of HD's $900, a savings of $700 from if I got them with Apple, but more importantly they're better, the 500's have a 16MB buffer, and the Raptor, ... we'll it's a Raptor ;)

alas, for the most part Apple.. There are NV7300, ATI X1900, and NV Quadro4500 as choices for now.. Rumor of other stuff down the line is subject to Intel architecture limits of the Xeon's I'm told.
