Damn, that's hard.

Alice in Chains - Don't Follow
Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb
The Rolling Stones - Paint it Black (or Can't You Hear Me Knocking. I'm torn on this one)
Metallica - Master of Puppets (this has to be on any song list no matter what the list is for)
Frank Sinatra - My Way

Honorable mention to the song that Metallica opens their concerts with. Instrumental, can't remember the name. I think it was from a western movie though which one escapes me right now. Very powerful song, though.

Edit: Completely forgot Hendrix. Bold as Love and Little Wing are ones the whole world must hear. I can't delete any of the others so I have seven ;)

Dave Matthews Band - #41
Sonic Youth - Stones
Sufjan Stevens - For the Widows in Paradise, for the Fatherless in Ypsilanti
Dream Theater - Stream of Consciousness
The Fiery Furnaces - Blueberry Boat. The whole damn album. It cannot be broken into songs.

These are just some of the highlights of my current playlist. I'm not much for the whole 'all time favorite song' thing.

if you are talking about the Don McLean American Pie... omg no. Madonna tried to re-do it and managed to suck every ounce of goodness from a GREAT song. let's not butcher it even more...
