I started with a 5 pc network using a 5 port switch and 2 nics in the computer running sygate, it worked fine but if the main machine had downtime the others couldnt go online, so, I got a NetGear RT314 (thanks Dell!) it has 4 ports and an uplink port, the cable modem goes into the uplink and 4 computers connect to the router for independent internet access, it works perfectly, but, I still have #5 to figure out, it is connected by a crossover cable to the computer with the two nics, it is on my lan but only visible to the computer with the two nics, how do I go about setting it up to get its internet access from the lan?

I still have a five port switch, is there a way to connect it to the router to let computers connected to the switch use the router?

what about an inline a/b type switch?

Hmmm, Why dont you connect any port on the switch to any port on the router with a crossover cable and then connect #5 to the switch's uplink port, you will have to use the uplink port on the switch to connect #5 because it is using a crossover cable and it is run through the wall and would be too much of a pain to swap out for a straight cable, you will end up with three computers connected directly to the router and the router connected to the switch and two computers connected to the switch, all of them will have independent internet access and you will have two open ports on the switch for future additions and setup/diagnostic stuff on the computers you fix for friends and family!
