so our landlord gave us the option if we want to move out, we can. (she is trying to sell the house apparently, but our lease will stay until june if we want to) She is picky as hell and won't even let us have a bar upstairs, or move ANYTHING without asking her. (she says it will ruin the character of the house) the house is always messy as hell and i hate living with 5 other guy roomates (its a pretty big house) theres no dishwasher and there are fruit flies everywhere. Im pissed.

Me and one other roomate feel the EXACT same way and want to take the chance to move out, and our landlord said she will let whoever is staying just pay their share (for probably another month) and all would be fine. But our roomates would probably be pissed... So what are your thoughts? or situations that you have had?

dude that sounds nasty. I live with 2 other guys and our house is pretty much spotless. Sadly to say we have 5 cats in the house (I have 2, roommate has 1, and his freaking GF has two that she keeps at our place). This place doesn't reek of cats or anything...

Yes yes...please spare me the cat jokes. I hate it ><

From your avatar, you're a gal, right? And you're living with all guys, right? If yes, just move out. They'll get over it pretty quickly. We're much simpler creatures - we'll be mad for a few weeks, and then we'll forget.

Sounds like the common area of your house is a classic example of the tragedy of the commons.

Are you a female living with 5 guys?

Either way I'd move out if I could afford it.

I enjoyed living on my own without any roommates very much (more than I thought I would)

well I say, if you are eventually going to have to move out what does it matter if it is now or then. Its not going to put any financial burden on the rest of the guys. They will probably be happy to have less people in the house. you never know they could be feeling the same way as you.

Are you friends with those other guys, and would this ruin the friendship?

If not, screw them. Life's too short to ruin months of it trying to please people that mean nothing to you.

i lived in a dump in college, my jr. year frat house was 3 floors of 4... the first floor and top floor kept it clean, my floor, the middle floor was a dump and a half. We had a dog (think greyhound/shepard/lab mix) that wasn't very well trained... after 1/2 the year she went home to my friends where she is now. . and a kegerator ... too bad the common area was inhabitable.

i went out of my way to find us another house. i found a brand new parking-garage-covereted into a brand new house... it was awesome. 2 floors of 13 guys... within 2 months it was a dump like the last house.

bottom line is... in college if you want to live with your boys, expect a mess... if not, live by yourself or with 1 roommate.
