Not sure if I totally agree with the decision to give her 5. I mean she had one hit. One. Her album was ookay, nothing spectacular.

She's a huge talent, her voice,it's hypnotic. I love her sound and think she'll mature into a stunning performer if she can overcome her issues.

I don't know her but...If you're on drugs and make good music, your music will suck when you clean up. I call it the "Aerosmith Rule".

Her "issues" are what make her who she is. Most great art comes from suffering. Remove the suffering, and you remove the art.........

That's just absurd. Not all great music comes from suffering. There are plenty of artists who made/make great music based on positive things that have happened in their life.

Yes, they make music based on the positive things in their life, but, it still comes out of the suffering.

I never liked her music one bit. She sings horribly and her music sucks.

I think she wins more because of connections she may have an hype rather than for her music.

I don't like Amy Winehouse. Bad example. Worse than Britney IMO. I don't think she'll quit her habits. She wouldn't be Amy Winehouse without her crack and shit.

Its definetely not because she's attractive

She looks like more of a crackwhore then some of the actual crackwhores I've seen. Even Courtney Love

Actually Britney doesn't smoke crack. Or shoot heroin, or smoke weed, or do anything else but take medically prescribed pills (I Believe)...she just has serious psychological problems as far as I know.

From now on, whenever a conversation comes up about the Grammy's I'm going to give Winehouse's 5 as the main evidence for their lameness (instead of the million other reasons).

She may have only had one hit here in the US, but she's had other hits in the UK. Plus, she's on her 2nd album (the first was recently released in the US). At the MTV Europe Music Awards, she won the Artists' choice award (i.e. other music artists picked her as their artist of the year). You may not like her, but she has gotten a lot of critical acclaim.

For a little more info, wiki link.

I personally love "You Know I'm No Good" because it really highlights her voice IMHO. I think Rehab is okay, but it tends to feel campy.

I don't think the fame followed the notoriety. I think her talent gave her fame, but also helped her fuel her (already existing?) addictions.

I never heard of her until I went to Variety last night and she was on the front page and my buddy made a comment. Based on what he told me of her, I'm going to go ahead and assume she sucks (she's pop music, so that's basically a guarantee for at least her lyrics to be bad) and doesn't deserve a Grammy. However, Grammies don't mean shit now.

That they with held the Visa as long as they did sends her a very clear message that her addiction won't be tolerated here. I imagine there might well have been other conditions attached to that Visa that might have been difficult for her to pull off in 2 days.

First, as I said, she got it in time to attend the grammy's if she had hopped the next flight. And if our stance was really such as your implying, why did we give her the Visa at all? Much less in time for her to still attend the grammy's.

She didn't attend because she's stubborn and in her mind she was probably making a point, "Make me wait until the last minute and I just won't come at all."

If you are going to accept a grammy and are also going to perform, you've got to make firm plans at some point.I doubt she was simply being willful but rather when she was told her Visa had been denied went ahead and started setting things up so she could accept and perform from London.

She is unbelievably disgusting. Snorting cocaine on stage is a great performance?

She didn't deserve a single one of those Grammy awards.

Feist got jobbed losing to the crack whore. As if the Grammys weren't a joke already.

the grammys are about the music the person makes, not who the person is outside of music. Like her music or not (I don't like it) Winehouse's album was one of the most critically acclaimed albums in a long long time. The critics loved her, and this was way before any knew she was a pshyo coke head. The fact that she was found out to be a drug addict shouldn't take away from all the critics who raved about her album.

Jimi Hendrix died from drugs, but look how important he is to music, even today he's still loved. Why should Amy be looked down upon? At least she's trying to better herself in rehab.

I don't care for Amy, but the Grammys are honoring MUSIC, and while musical tastes is a very subjective thing, Amy is very popular with critics and fans a like. So she's a logic choice to win a grammy.

I watched her on the HD music channel this past weekend....meh. I didn't really care much for her voice, and visually, (to me) she's repulsive with all those tatoos.

My rant about Grammy's in general:
Music is soo subjective, it's difficult to judge. There's a huge emergence of independent artists. I heard that a bunch of artists were not considered because they weren't a part of a major record label. BS. Grammy's should be about friggin music and the appreciation of true talent. Grammy's should be given out to true artists, and not people who can just sing and don't write their own songs and sing other people's material.

--

I never really liked her rehab song (ironic?). I suppose I can see why people like it. I'm not too familiar with her work, so I'm assuming she does her own writing (considering she one 5).

Kanye has worlds more talent. He's one of the very few hiphop artists that I respect due to his work ethic and his melding of various sounds and style into his work. I've always thought he was more deserving of the award than any other artist through the years. He produced hit singles (although, I'm not a fan of all of his music and the other singers/rappers that he spawned) and knows what the general population likes. He taylors to that market and has succeeded very well. Although his few public antics are looked down upon, I still consider him to be immensely talented in what he does, and he is deserving of all the wealth he has.

well, i did lol @ his very incoherent speech he did for that Katrina thing. I totally disagree with his views and some of the message of his music. That doesn't mean he's talentless.

I'm sure the OP has the same sentiment for Amy Winehouse. I may not like her work, but people should show a little bit more appreciation for other people's hard work. No one likes to be bashed upon, especially when we don't even personally know the person and that said person has done nothing to us. They make more dough than you afterall.

Barak Obama won a grammy, so that gives you an idea of what kind of credence to lend to the grammys.
