$5 Gas around the corner...

Analog

Lifer
American motorists have seen the national average for a gallon of regular gasoline rise above $3.50 a gallon on just three occasions, but it has never happened this early in the year. Analysts say it's likely a sign that pain at the pump will rise to some of the highest levels ever seen later this year.

In 2008, average gasoline prices had hit inflation-adjusted records nationally by the summer, but they didn't climb above $3.50 a gallon across the U.S. that year until April 21, according to the AAA Fuel Gauge Report. It happened again last year, but not until March 6.

But $3.50 a gallon gasoline is already here in 2012, weeks before refineries typically shut down for springtime maintenance, and weeks before the states switch from their less expensive winter blends of gasoline to more complicated and pricier summer blends.

"This definitely sets the stage, potentially, for much higher prices later this year," said Brian L. Milne, refined fuels editor for Telvent DTN, a commodity information services firm. "There's a chance that the U.S. average tops $4 a gallon by June, with some parts of the country approaching $5 a gallon."

All this money I've been saving up for a car, may go to a bicycle.

I remember just 2 years ago when I moved to Tucson the gas prices were like $1.65/gallon.

They same this same shit every year and it never happens. Gas prices aren't expected to climb significantly in the next coming weeks.

BS. Market doesn't support it. They try this shit every year. We buy more fuel efficient cars, car pool, drive less, etc.. every time. They keep it up and the American public gets pissed off enough and we'll start using natural gas cars or have gasoline cars that get 70mpg. They know this and won't cut their own balls off.

Am I the only one who hates the phrase "pain at the pump"?
It is so overused, and it is only used because it is an alliteration. If milk prices went up you wouldn't say you were feeling the pain at the refrigerated dairy section of a grocery store.

Makes me glad I got a motorcycle for commutes. Just need to take the class and get licensed.

You won't save a dime. You have to pay for bike insurance, the bike, bike maintenance which includes tires that last 5000 miles and cost as much as 4 car tires, etc...

<----Have ridden owned motorcycles for about 16 years.

A fly could fart in the Middle East and they will raise prices and of course the summer blends gasoline is going to come on line so that is another excuse they can fall back to tell why gas is $5.00 a gallon.
