This is my neighborhood. The closest of these shootings was about 1/4 mile from my house. I saw my neighbor who is an ex park police officer sitting inside his garage with a shotgun this morning, and just now figured out what was going on. Pretty f'ed up.

Dude, I grew up there. Right near Grovsnor (sp?) metro station. Hell my Mom and step-dad still live there.

Argh! Mont. County is supposed to be full of rich spoiled people (Potomac, BCC, etc...) this isn't supposed to happen.

EDIT: Typo

Mark one up for the bad guys.

This is reason #982734092378235987903412.12 that we need concealed carry.

That is F*CKED Up! I'm in Nova right now, but I know/have connections up in SS/Wheaton area. Have you read how these people were killed? One sitting on a park bench, one vacuuming out her car....Absolutely disgusting. Not much evidence, but sounds to me like some sick f*cker simply going around and popping a cap in any random unsuspecting victim. Now THAT is truly scary.

In this day and age, you can expect stuff like this to happen with kids armed with bb-guns... not real bullets. So sad people have no regard for human life. Those people had families who cared for them and for their life to be taken away for just being there... give the accused the chair, I don't care... it's only fair.

It looks like there was another random killing, a 72 year old man standing on a street corner. May not be related, but I think that's highly unlikely.

No leads yet? What about ballistics and forensic data from yesterday? No results yet ?

Aside from the caliber (.223), they haven't said much. They recovered one spent shell casing from each shooting, which says that it was probably an auto/semi-auto, and they've been showing the press a bunch of AR type rifles as examples of what might have been used. They have not recovered the bullets from any of the victims yet, but they found bullet fragments in one victim. The shooter was apparently 100-150 yards from some of these people, and this is just my guess, but I would think that he would be using a scope.

Read about this on the Post yesterday. This is really scary. I'm from about an hour south of there (So. Md), but I have lots of friends and relatives up there.

Would it really surprise anyone if this was never solved?

I've often thought that if someone was intent on doing so, sniping a few people (from a distance) in a large city & then simply disappearing is about as close to the perfect crime as you can get.

Unless they continue their killing, I wouldn't be surprised at all if it's never solved.

I don't personally oppose concealed carry, but how in the hell would concealed carry done anything in any of these situations? If someone is taking a bead on you from 100-150 yards with a rifle and a scope and you have no idea, having a pistol in your jacket or waistband isn't gonna do a damn thing unfortunately.

That would protect us so much from a sniper.

jerk...

edit: i see you don't let others rate you. we know that others think you're a jerk too.

But it would allow someone else to take out a sniper....

If someone was pretty close to the sniper when the shot went off... but from the reports that "a few" people saw a white truck leaving some of the scenes it doesn't seem like people were 20ft away when these things happened and could have prevented it.
