I am going to Istanbul in Turkey for 5 days from Sep 1 to Sep 5, with a group of 5 people mixed!

Places to go within Istanbul only- but trips to nearby smaller islands through a cruise will be ok too (like keystone and Miami)

Ideas and places and places to avoid will be appreciated!

I love beaches and out door stuff, but am up for anything!
Thanks

It's Istanbul, not Constantinople. No, it's Istanbul, not Constantinople.
Even old New York was once New Amsterdam.

Why they changed it, I can't say.

People just liked it better that way.

We were there for four days and followed some lonely planet suggestions. These were our thoughts:

Archaeology museum: superb even better than Athens
Hagia Sofia: outside nicer than inside
Palace: superb
blue mosque? beautiful outside didnt go in
spice bazaar>>grand bazaar
The best baklava was found at Hamdi restarant near the Galaka bridge/ Have a few pieces with tea outside after dinner you will think you died and went to heaven
best lunch/dinners we had were at Buhara near the Hagia Sofia.
notable restaurants are Hamdi and Zinhan. Zinhan had better food and view but we had bad indigestion/heartburn that night. Could have been spicy food.

Thank you, I appreciate it, any suggestion for watersport activities or beach or best places to go for Turkish bath?

Know someone who went there last year. Late twenties, naive looking girl. She went alone and came back fine, but mostly stuck with resorts and tour groups.

I think she stayed the hell away from the Iraq border though, so ya.
