The sad part is that they're getting in trouble over this, yet cops get away with much worse abuse of power at times and nothing gets done.

They're not actually going to get in any real trouble. Remember, the police are better than you, and the law doesn't really apply to them.

I once saw a Paramedic truck use its emergency lights on the freeway in a traffic jam to get traffic to let him by near his off-ramp. Then they went off. I followed him, and he drove at normal speed to the fire station, and casually got out. I told him I'd watched him misuse his emergency lights. He wasn't rude in his manner, but said 'if you have a complaint, take it to the city.' He clearly did not fear any reprimand for the misuse.

I simply wanted him to know people were watching, and did that.

used to see this all the time when I worked a night shift... I'd be stuck at a stoplight for 10 minutes at 1 am, meanwhile cops with their emergency lights on would come barreling through the intersection only for me to see their cars in the parking lot of Dunkin Donuts 3 blocks down the road.

Factoring in the ATOT Exaggeration Rate, I'd say those 10 minute waits at a light were probably 2 minutes in real life.

I was stopped at a light for 5 minutes, and theres a cop car in front of me. The cop turns on his/her lights and runs the light. As soon as he/she is past the red light, the lights turn off and I'm stuck waiting for another 5 minutes.

To a police department spokesperson it's not an incident at all, it's the perks of the job. The goal is to say as little as possible until the press gets tired of the story and goes away.

I believe that because they are public servants, they should serve the public and be held to a higher standard. There's way, way too much "we are better than you" in police attitude.
