5" Color LCD for PS1 ~$32 at EB (YMMV)

Stopped by the local Electroniques Boutique today, and picked up
a 5" Color LCD (made for use with the PS1) for 50% of the redline
price of $64 and change (Originally $74.95).

YMMV, as it was the only one left in the store, and I imagine it
has been on clearance for a while. The box wasn't sealed shut,
and I haven't tested it yet, but I did pull it out and it seemed to
be in good shape.

It has RCA audio/video inputs and should work with any VCR, TV,
DVD player, etc. I plan on hooking it up to a Dreamcast I have just
laying around the house. (Can anyone recommend a site that will
give instructions on installing this sort of thing in a car?)

I believe this LCD is the one I bought, and not the round one
made by Sony.

All in all, seemed like a good deal for $32.

Nice deal,
I am wondering where you brought the LCD.
If the deal is national, that would be nice.

if I had to guess, it'd be near

City: melbourne

Province/State: Florida

When you look at the plug that goes from the monitor to the PSOne, are all the pins there, or are some pins missing? Thanks,

Not to crap on this deal, as the price is pretty good...but I bought this screen a few months back when I found it for $50 at a Sam Goody near me. Took it home and powered it up - it is completely awful. I returned it with the quickness. For $32 I would NOT buy this, but if EB will take returns, give it a shot...maybe you'll like it. I would buy it for $20 maybe. 🙂

Yes, Melbourne (east coast of FL).

I'm not sure if they are all there. I peeked at it a few mins after my post, just to make sure
I got the right picture. 🙂
It looked to be okay, but I will double check later. I did plug it into my adapter to make sure
it powered on and all the pixels looked okay, and it seemed fine.

I figured I'll test it out with an old Dreamcast or N64 at home, and see how it looks. I'm not
expecting it to be amazing, but good enough for someone in my car to play a game on a long
ride. I'll post a better review when I connect it to a console...

That's an InterAct screen. They're limited to in store stock only as the company that produced the screen is out of business (hence the 50% off). It's not a bad screen, just not as good as the Sony screen. Hope ya like it, it's a good price.

From what I can tell, there may be 2 versions of the screen. My version doesn't have RGB color, which I can see just from looking at it, plus there are some pins missing on the cable. If the 2nd version has RGB, I would go get this.

i got the same thing a while back but made by GameVue for $50 from Fry's. you can go to Mp3Car.com or the Hard Forums and see how some people have hacked it and installed it somewhere else. it's not bad at all. i took mine apart. wasn't very had. i have to find a way to extend some of the flat cables. but if i manage to do that, i'm goin' to make another case for it and custom install it in my car.

Finally got around to testing that little screen.

I still haven't closely examined the plugs, but I
hooked it up to my Dreamcast using the RCA
inputs, and it worked fine.

It bleeds a little, and you can't view it easily from
a very sharp angle, but other than that, I'm pretty
pleased. For $32 I definitely am. 🙂

I'm not sure what ollie meant by RGB color...Tony
Hawk was playing in color, I know that. 🙂 If you want,
I'll look at the pins closer if you tell me what to look for.

I'm going to look into hacking it, and mounting it in
a headrest or dash or something...

I tried mounting one like that in my zuk, and it did not work very well. but for $30 I may try again 😛
