Arrests mean nothing, other then that law inforcement will arrest anyone with a slightest suspicion, just to show thier "performance" and quick work.

police found a backpack with another unexploded bomb on one of the trains.
they found it under the debris because a cell phone inside the backpack was going of

I bet that the arrests today had something to to with that cell phone and/or other info in that backpack

EDIT:

CNN confirms what I said

"Spanish authorities investigating the Madrid terror attacks arrested five people on Saturday who they say are linked to a telephone card found with an undetonated bomb, the Spanish interior minister said."

^^That is really pissing me off too..

I will never listen to a Muslim who tells me they are about Peace ... There has to be something in the Koran that tells them to get VIOLENT because sure seems like 90% of the terrror in the world is committed by MUSLIMS!@

From the BBC Article.. sounds like they are just common criminals who probably didn't have much to do with the actual bombing....
Mr Acebes said the men were believed to be linked with the sale and falsification of a mobile phone and SIM card found by police near one of the bomb blasts on Thursday.

I think they are totally justified in suspecting ETA as one of the prime suspects. They have a history of using violence on innocents, and in the past four months, there were 3 major arrests where ETA were attempting to plant a large amount explosives. In one of them they were trying to plant them on commuter trains.

I still think that the investigation has a lot more work to be done before there is a final answer. Perhaps even the ETA worked together with extremists.

agreed, but pushing for something while it's still not clear who did it is different then just suspecting ETA.
the Spanish govt. told its ambassadors around the world, only a couple of hours after the blast, to push the ETA connection because that favours the Partido Popular in the elections tomorrow

I think they have since the beginning not excluded the possibility of Al Qaeda, although the initial knee-jerk reaction may have been to point to the ETA. The different political groups are trying to use it to help them in the elections, but I think there is only so much you can do distort the truth. Hopefully that truth comes out sooner than later.

The result will have an impact on both the US and UK. If the attack is indeed by Al Qaeda, it will likely strengthen support for Bush and Blair.

The suspects were arrested because the police suspect they belong to an organisation that sells fake SIM card, and the cell phone they found in the backpack was using a fake card.

AFAIK and from whats been said on the news that is all.

from the BBC link

"The suspects may have links with extremist Moroccan groups, the minister said, but it was still too early to confirm this. "

we have to wait and see ...

And I can argue the same about Christians, when Islam was at its peak power. (not to say that christians control the world)

you don't get it

if the Partido Popular is downplaying the Al-Quada link because such a link would hurt them in elections today then this is dispicable.
