HP Pavilion
Running windows XP
It will periodically show a message that it is shutting down in 5-4-3-2-1 - then shut itself off. I just have to restart as normal - but can't seem to keep it running on its own. Is there a setting somewhere in XP that is doing this?

just check wheather you have 2 files in
windows/system32/wins/

the first one is the worm msblast.exe
the other one is the svchost.exe which is actually a tftp server in disguise
both of them are loaded in services.
to identify the tftp server check the svchost.exe with the | system | credentials....
hope it helps.

While you're at it, turn on the XP firewall. Not a guarantee against this happening in the future but a help, assuming your on a broadband connection right click on network neighborhood (which is hopefully on your desktop), properties, right click on Local Area Connection, properties, and enable the firewall under the advanced tab.
