With some MiniDV Camcorders going for less than $300 these days, I'm sure they could sell a deck unit for a PC for like $100. I would love to not have to hook my camera up and sting a cable up and plug my camera in every time I need to transfer a tape. I saw one by Sony mentioned for $1000 DVR-100 or something, but can't even find it on sony or ebay. I wouldn't pay anything near 1k for one, but $100-$150 and I might bite.

If you have a MiniDV Camera would you want something like this? How much would you pay for it?

It does seem like such kit is between thin-on-the-ground and nonexistent. Not quite sure why. If you feel like tinkering, you could probably score a partially borked DV camera on ebay(one with a damaged lense would be ideal, if you can find it) and shove the relevant bits into a 5.25 slot or two, with a permanent firewire and DC hookup. That would be pretty crude; but cheap DV decks just don't seem to exist.

There are definetly some options for broken camcorders on ebay. Like you said though, it would be pretty crude. I imagine you could come up with a way to power it off of the PSU without too much trouble and an internal firewire connection would be easy. I think the hardest part would be converting the tape loading to something where you just slide the tape into the front and it is ready. I really can't believe no one makes these for a reasonable price. Seems like a better accessory than a lot of others out there.

that would be pretty cool, kinda like how they have usb and firewire ports they should include DV tape ports :)

with that being said is there a way you can capture DV in faster than real time? Like instead of letting the tape record and capture is there a way it will capture even if its like 2x?

Don't think that's possible with consumer level stuff. Maybe pro equipment but you're talking megabucks.
