Saw this enclosure on computergeeks.com. Looks pretty good to me, especially with the LCD that has a temperature monitor and fan speed (and alarm).

Is this deal hot or not? $26 + $6 ship = $32

well i think its neat and certainly appears to look cool, but sounds like overkill.....which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but I don't think you're getting the overkill for free. Do you really need aLCD? And only cool if you could swap out at least 2+ drives so if you bought 2, that is like $70? wow. I have found some at dealsonic, that work just fine for much cheaper. as always newegg has stuff too.

Does anyone own this enclosure? It seems like a good deal. $36 is cheap for an 5.25" enclosure right?

it's a okay deal. i'd rather spend a big more and get a usb2 or firewire enclosure which is really the main purpose of having a removable rack (so u can take and stick it in another machine). with this, you're required to have one of this enclosures in every machine u want to use it in. with the usb2/firewire, u just have to make sure they have usb or a firewire card interface already. most motherboards come with usb already and firewire is becoming more and more of a standard.

The real purpose of these is to equip them with an IDE Raid card that supports hot swapping of drives. That way if one of your hard drives fails, you can just eject the defective drive, install a new one, slide it back in and still keep your uptime.

Exactly, you can get USB 2 5.25 enclosures for about this same price.

I'm glad I posted this on anandtech. I was going to buy this. Somehow I looked over the fact that it is not USB 2.0 which was the whole point. I wanted an enclosure for extra storage for my laptop. This would have definitely did me no good. Thanks for the replies and help.
