5.25 / 3.5 " External Enclosure USB 2.0 With Fan and Lighting Cable $19.95

I have this one and the reason that I found for data coruption was heat. If you leave the top off or add a fan which is what I did it works just fine.

Same case as a number of other deals ($17.95 one, etc). I got mine. Works great for the CD-RW I'm using but that's only a 12x (40x died). The real test is when I get a NEC ND-2500A to put in there. Black bezel in a beige case? Oh well! 😉

great price....price for enclosures are coming down.....
Anyone know any good prices on Firewire or combo enclosure???

Bump, for the firewire question. Is really that much faster/better, then USB2?
I just got a firewire card, for my ipod, and fell in love. But would you prefer FireWire?
How much more would it cost?

I read somewhere that firewire uses up more cpu resources. Don't know how true that statement really is though

Got mine today, testing it out. It seems ok, I like the blue LED in the USB cable. The instructions are cryptic. I am pretty sure I should make the drives master without slave. But sometimes controllers want Cable Select instead. So far it is picky about how you set your drives.

Also I put an old CD Rom drive in to test that part and it wouldnt play music cd's. It could read the CD files but couldnt play them for some reason. Prolly somthing to do with WMP.

OH and it hates to format drives. Quick format causes it to lock up and then close.

I will do some speed testing this weekend.

Laters 🙂

I doubt firewire use more CPU resources, but one thing for sure..its that firewire is much more stable. I use to have USB 2 case for DVDRW, then transfer to firewire love it......
but USB 2 is good, since..everyone have USB 2, and its good for CDROM, CDRW...

if you order now you can an additional black Type A to Type B Cable...total of 2 USB 2.0 cables for the same prices...not a bad deal..

Actually it's the other way around. USB 2.0 uses more CPU resources, and FW doesn't. If you have both USB 2.0 and FW, test it out the speed you will see. FW is actually faster .......

Bump for the price though. Although I don't know about the chipset. I got this for my SATA drive and it actually has a 8CM cooling fan buid into the tray. Kept my drive really cool! 🙂

I don't know about CPU usage -- firewire is faster than USB 2.
I scan slide using Epson 2450 photo scanner. 3200dpi: USB2 takes 30 mins; firewire takes 20 mins; it is not much different when scan at 300 dpi.
