Its a very easy install. Shut off the Furnace at your breaker box. Today is the last day its on sale, so better hurry!

Says in the instructions it will work with as little as a two-wire system and work with as many an an eight-wire system. You should be fine.

2 wire installations are low voltage and do not require that the furnace be shut off...
as long as the thermostat is set to the "off" position.

Maybe I should get the exact model as my old one, since there are like 6-10 wires I need to deal with...dont want to blow the place up.
Whoops. My prev post was in reply to ms2times. It was at the top of a new page. It's still accurate for the 2 wire systems.
Obviously you have a system w/ A/C...

Disclaimer: None of the 2 wire stuff holds true for anything other than 2-wire forced air gas.

The back of both the old and the new thermostats should be marked as to which wire is which. You should be able to read from the old box and place that wire on the new box.
Just do one wire at a time instead of completely disconnecting the old thermostat.

Saw 2 models on clearance at Home Depot this weekend. One was 5+2 days and the other was 5+1+1... Don't remember the prices though.

Let me dig up this old bone...

Anyone having problems with their thermostat dipping below the preset temp and the heater/furnace not coming on? This has happened several times in the past month or so.

I have changed all the factory presets on the heating side to keep the house at 70. Every now and again, I start feeling chilly and check the temp...sure enough its down below 70 degrees and the heater hasnt even tried to turn on. If I switch it from off to on again then the heater will come on.

Even if I use the "permanent override program" feature and try that work around, it does the same thing from time to time:(

I bit and got one of these thermostats, and like it. I do, however have one problem.

In the morning when the house is first warming up, the furnace will run for about ten minutes and then shut off eaven though the house has not reached the set temperature. Immediatly after it shuts off, it will run through a purge cycle, start up, and run for another ten minutes. It keeps running in short ten minute increments until the house has warmed up. It seems like this constant starting/stopping would be hard on the blower.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Possibly clogged filter(s) or bad over-temp safety shut-off.

I'd take it back and get a replacement.

I had the same problem on a 7 year old Honeywell. Worked fine during the day and night but about 1 out of 3 mornings, it would never start up in the morning. I replaced it with another Honeywell and it cured the problem for going on 2 weeks now. I suspect you may have a bad thermostat.

Regarding 5to1baby1in5's problem, there should be an adjustment for the cycle time. On the old manual dial types, there is an adjustor on the ring of the dial that will lengthen (counterclockwise) or shorten (clockwise) the cycle time that it will stay on for. The longer the better. On a programmable, I'm not sure if or where the adjustment is but it should be there somewhere. HERE is how you do it on a Honeywell.

I saw some "experts" talking about programable thermostats and potential savings on tv. They said you need to lower your normal temp by at least 10% for about 8 hours to save money on heating. That shouldn't be too hard to accomplish at night or while you're away at work during the day.

My schedule for my wife and I with her getting up at 4:30 and I at 6:45

wake temp 68 at 4:30 am
leave temp 60 at 8:00 am
home temp 68 at 4:00 pm
sleep temp 64 at 10:00 pm I'd go lower but the kid's rooms tend to get colder

What did you end up doing? How low did it get?
It's supposed to drop below the set temp before it comes on. Mine has settings to set it to come on .5 deg below set temp (which makes it come on too often), or 1 deg below, which is default and what I left it at.
