I was in the market for a programmable thermastate and found this great deal at lowes today. This unit usually goes for 29.97 so its $10 off. I bought and installed it today. Very easy to install. This has most of the features that i wanted in a thermostat but the ones you won't get unless you spend more money is:

Automatic switch from airconditioning to heat (definitly not a big deal for me cause how much
do you really have to do this)

7 day (not a big deal for me because i work weekdays and off weekends).

Some units can operate with batteries but this unit takes two double AAs..most of the ones thare are under $60 do. This isn't a big deal for me because the manual said the batteries will last for year.

With Natural Gas prices suppose to skyrocket this year this is something i really wanted and for $20 im sure you will recover the cost in a short amount of time.

Anyways link to the termastat at lowes:

Oh i forgot to tell everyone...make sure it rings up correctly when you go to the register. Mine didn't and i had to have him correct the price.

I pickied up a couple of these, at different locations. The first one purchased rang up correctly, but the second, a few days later and at a different store, rang up for $29.97. Still had the receipt for the first one purchased, so they priced matched their own sale. ;)

These work great btw.

If you do not have one of these adjustable type thermostats in your furnace circuit, you might just as well go to the toilet and flush a hundred Dollar bill down it about every 6 weeks during the coldest weather. (Hint, the swirling water will make your blood boil.)
And, if you live in the northern tier of the U.S., make it $200!
I assume our Canadian friends are in the same boat, energy-wise.

Good find, ncage. :D:D:D

Does anyone know of a programmable thermostat for a heat only line voltage system? They seem to be tough to find.

I think honeywell makes them, but they're costly. Here's what I found

What's the difference between it auto-adjusting the temp at 6 PM everyday and me changing it at 6 PM everyday?

Humans are more prone to forget?

Exactly. I use to do this but id always forget. I was in a hurry in the morning and forgot to turn it down or i was tired and night and forgot to turn it down. Also, you can tell it to turn up the heat 20 min before you get home so it will be nice and tosty when you get home rather than freeze until it warms up. You can also do this in the morning when you turn it down at night. So tell it to turn up 30 min before you wake.

I bought the same one at Walmart about 4 years ago when we moved into our new house. I think I paid about $20, and have never had a problem. It was backlit, by the way, flourescent blue, like the Timex Indiglo blue, however you spell it...

Good deal... not super hot but good...

I got one from lowes a couple years ago that had two rebates, a Hunter 7 day, backlit. There are a few things I don't like about it, but overall I'm glad I got it.

I need a good deal on one for my parents house, but they have a dual stage heat pump system, and they're hard to find cheap enough.

You're missing out then. I have it set to 60 during the day and 54 at night... :)
You can both probably see your breath. . .

I lived in Grand Forks, North Dakota for 9 years and I'm not tough enough for 54º.
That being said, I'd generally spend the first half of the winter shoveling the car out and the second half trying to get it started.

I have the model up from this with the cool indiglo backlighting and it's great. Much better than the $2 "builder's special" that came with the house!

Anyone know how to install one of these things? I have an old ghetto round style one in my house and would like to change it but I don't have the slightest clue how to take it off nor which kind of thermostat I need. Any help will be appreciated.

First switch your circuit break off for both your furnace and air.

Its as simple as simple can get. Take off the front cover. There will be one or two screws afixing the unit to the wall unscrew theme to release it from the wall. There will be some wires going to the unit. Each wire will be labeled with a letter combination (W,R,Y, ect...) Make sure you label the wires (very important). Get your new unit and run the wires to the same place where they were on the previous unit. Use a drill with a 3/8 bit to drill the new holes for the unit. Screw the backplate to the wall. Put the cover on and put fresh batteries in and your done. Don't be scared to do it. If you can do any computer work than this will be simple compared to that.

I think I am going to bite on this even though it lacks the cool indiglo backlit feature of others. Its just too good a deal to pass and I need to replace my thermostat right away.
