5.1 - Would Sony Home Theater Work ?

I have a 6 channel sound card integrated on my mobo. I am wondering what kind of speakers should i buy. I want power, so i am considering Klipsch Promedia 5.1 or Logitech Z680. they both are pretty close when it comes to sound quality i think. I checked them out at COMPUSA. there is about a $75 diff in price....logitech being cheaper.

What I was wondering was can I get one of the Sony 5.1 home theater systems which comes with an amplifier/decoder. The sound quality is awesome. They sell for about $250-$299. Would that work with a PC sound card or do i have to choose between Klipsch/Logitech.

If those home theater systems work, then we have a wide variety of speakers to choose from. 🙂

It'll work as long as your sound card has a digital sp/dif output. If you use the breakout miniplugs than your onboard sound will be doing the decoding rather than your receiver.

I have a Kenwood Dolby Digital Home Theater system that I used to have hooked up to my computer. I ended up getting an RCA to 3.5mil converter and running the output straight from my sound card without going through my DD processor. I thought it actually sounded clearer. Now, I've moved my Kenwood Receiver and speakers to work with my TV since my DVD player can actually use the different channels on the rear speakers.

If you go with the Home Theater, the sound of the speakers will be much better, but don't buy it for the computer. Plan to move it to a T.V. in the future and you'll be getting your money out of it. 🙂
