Ok, bought some 5.1 surround sound speakers for my computer a little bit ago. My motherboard supports 5.1 speakers and when I use the software for the mobo sound card, I can hear all 5 channels (and subwoofer) very clearly.

So I try to play some mp3's using Windows Media Player and I can't get any bass out of it unless I use the software's bass boost option. Without it, even with my subwoofer's gain all the way up, I hear no bass. Secondly, with mp3's and even audio CD's I don't get audio out of all 5 satellite speakers... just the front 2 and the center channel.

Any suggestions? Does anyone need more info on my computer?

Oh, the mobo is a Chaintech VNF3-250 and the speakers are Philips 5.1-Channel Computer Speakers MMS460.

I would go into settings for the nforce sound options and make sure your set up correctly for 5.1 or 2.1. Did you have to hook up 3 seperate din (headphone like) plugs? If so does your motherboard have 6 outputs? Most have the 3 (line in/out and mic). If you have but the three you have to go into the settings and change it to turn the line in and mic into rear and sub center.
Right now newegg is having a special on a creative sound blaster card and if your using the on board I would suggest an upgrade. I went from the nforce sound and there is a very big diff. If your a gamer I really have to reccomend soundblaster over the others just for the gaming part because it decodes more.

Hope this helps you a bit. If you have all the seperate jacks on that mobo then it has to be in setting and make sure you plugged in the speakers in the proper places as well.

OH and unless you select a option you should only hear stereo sound though the front right and left and bass from the sub. No where else unles you select expand or use a eax option. You got sound coming from center and right left and no sub so something isnt right somewhere.
