Creative Cambridge SoundWorks MegaWorks 510D or Klipsch ProMedia 5.1 are both out of my price range. Unless there is a deal i don't know about. They are both awesome speaker systems, i've read some reviews about them. I've heard alot of good things about Logitech 560 and I know that is in my price range. I'm still wait for the best deal i can get for my money. Thanks y'all for the suggestions come back if u have any others. THANKS..

what are you gonna use the speakers for? If you say gaming don't even think about 5.1

I assume that if you watch DVDs or play a game programmed for 5.1 and use a a 4.1 set-up that the center channel is matrixed by the two front channels....correct? If so, I think a 5.1 set-up would pretty much be a waste of money in most situations. Seriously, how far apart are you going to spread your front speakers in a desktop situation? I think a nice set of 4.1 speakers is perfect for PCs.

You won't miss the center channel when playing games (games that are capable of 5.1 output that is).... I watch DVD movies regularly on my computer and even if your speakers are placed close together and you're sitting right in front of them, you'll definately agree with my opions. For true 5.1 bitstreams (such as those used on DVD movies, the phantom center channel is crap. You can hear a very large difference watching a DVD movie with a 4.1 speaker set up as opposed to a 5.1 speaker set up).

I second the Logitech Z-560s idea. I have had the Klipsch 2.1 and 4.1 speakers. I don't understand why people praise these speakers like they do. True they look stylish and pump out decent sound at high wattage but the clearity of the sound disappointed me. I bought the 2.1 Klispch speakers first and was disappointed with the sound while playing games and music , I thought it might just be the pair I got. I then like an idiot went out and got the 4.1 set up and agian the sound isn't nearly what everyone rants about. So I went out and bought the Logitech Z-560's last month and they sound better I think. Klipsch arn't bad speakers but they arn't worth what I paid for them.

This is a bit off topic but I didn't want to seem like i'm bashing Klispch as a company. I have some very nice Home audio floor standing speakers by Klipsch and they sound absolutley amazing. I like to think of Klipsch as good for Home Audio and not very experienced with Computer Audio. Their computer speakers arn't bad for their first attempt but they arn't all that everyone touts them to be either.

2buystore still has the Logitech Z560's for $139.90 with free shipping. That means you will have $10.10 left in your budget. I just got mine today and they are great. Don't even think about getting the Klipsch 4.1's at this price. Want to know what the Klipsch's sound like compared to the Logitech's? Take both of your hands and cup them over your mouth and speak. That hollow, resonant sound is what the Klipsch's sound like. There are Z560 reviews that mention they have too much bass. That has been fixed with the version being shipped now, the bass can be turned way down and way,way up. The midrange and treble is real smooth with the Logitech's too. There are people who like the sound of the small Klipsch's, and a with a quick 5-10 minute comparison in a store the Klipsch's will impress and initially sound better. But as you listen longer to different songs you will begin to notice the Klipsch's make every song sound the same, while the Logitech's have a more neutral character and get out of the way of the music. The Klipsch's were the best small speakers made before the Z560's appeared. But don't take just my word for it.

i don't think you can get a good pair of 5.1's in your price range.
there the really cheap creatives and the new altecs, but it isn't anywhere near the promedia's 5.1
i have the z560's, and yes i recommend them despite the horror stories you've heard of, because they are nice for the price and it sounds great. personally i took those stories into consideration, and bought a warranty...
get the z560's you won't be disappointed, read those reviews too... i'm sure you don't really need a 5.1 system
