5.1 Speaker setup for PC

envy me

Golden Member

I am currently using some creative 5.1 setup (cost me around $60 CAD). I am going to be creating a new system and I wanted some advice on a 5.1 setup to purchase.

I have seen the Logitech 5500 setup, but that costs close to 360$ CAD (300$ more that the creative setup)

The creative setup sounds very nice and I want to know what can I expect in terms of difference/quality between the two pairs. Also does the increased quality justify the $300 in price?

Also, the speakers will be run off of a Creative Sound Blaster Audigy sound card.

Any suggestions?

it's hard for someone to tell you, since some people really like QUALITY stuff and some can't tell a difference. The best thing to do is go to a store and listen to them and determine if the increased quality is noticeable and worth the price premium.

I'm using the Logitech X-530's. They're only about $50 USD, and the total setup is 70W RMS. I'm using integrated sound, and it's good enough for me. The subwoofer shakes the ground, and my music sounds very clear. I'm far from an audiophile though, so if you're sensitive about music, you should probably go for something better. I'm thinking about getting a Chaintech AV-710 though just to decrease CPU load a bit.

I guess I will get the 5500 series speakers.. I'm going for top of the line everything so might as well right.

i too have the X-530 and they are enough for me....don't get the top thing just because it is....i'm not an audiophile so to me, a $50 speaker setup sounds as good as very expensive ones...only a little difference, not worth the extra price premium

Get good ones. When I bought my first comp, the 2 components that still remain from that build are the monitor (19 inch viewsonic) and speakers (5.1 creative 5300). Neither were top of the line but good enough for me to keep for 5 years. I have 0 intention to replace either even today. So I would spend more on speakers, especially if you enjoy music.

If you can hear significant difference is up to your ears. Audiophiles can. People with bad ears can't. I would get the 5500s if you have the money. I'd suggest the Klipch ProMedia Ultra 5.1 if it is in your price range.

How much of a difference you're going to notice and if it's worth it is going to be a personal thing.

I bet a lot of people would think that spending $60 on computer speakers would be nuts, but once you do it you "know" it was worth it.
After you buy a $200-$300 set, most people will agree that was worth it too.
The vast majority of people who buy the Logitech, Klipsch, and Creative/Cambridge highend computer speaker sets are very happy with their purchases. If I had to guess, I'd assume you would appreciate them too.

It definately gets into diminishing returns the higher you go with your budget, but the $300-$500 range is a pretty good bet still imo.

As has been mentioned, a sound system is going to hold value better than most "top of the line" components in your system and is something that you should be able to enjoy for quite a while.

If you really want to match a "top of the line" system with sound, it will probably cost you more than the computer you're planning 😉
