I have a SB Live 5.1 and just bought Hercules XPS 510 5.1 Speaker system. My question is . . . why do only two speakers work? My guess is that only DVD takes advanatge of 5.1, is this correct? If this is correct and I don't have a DVD player in my computer (and likely won't be watching any on my computer much when I do get a DVD player since I have DVD player in the living room) do I really need the 5 speakers? So basically does anything besides DVDs take advantage of 5.1? If not, I guess I take them back. Fry's had them on sale for $49.90 which is a good deal.

Did you make sure that 5.1 sound is enabled in the sound card properties? That is usually people's problems with things like this, but most new games can use 5.1 sounds.

Yes, once the 5.1 sound option is selected in your windows sound properties, your FR, FL, RL, RR speakers will work for MP3's and such. However, your center channel only plays in 5.1 DVDs, games, etc.
