Hi all,

I'm sure this is a fairly boneheaded question for some of you but I have to ask it. I am the proud ownder of an Audigy and a 5.1 surround speaker system for the sole purpose of playing DVDs in surround sound on my tv. I think maybe I screwed up in purchasing this. What do I need to have to hear the movie on all speakers and not just the right and left. Is this a DVD drive thing, or a software thing?
Can anyone help me and let me know?

Thanks...

I forgot to mention... I do get 5.1 sound from the demos that come with the audigy... it's just 5.1 enabled movies that I don't get the 5.1 sound on.

Welcome to the forums!

Yeah, you'll need a softDVD player that'll allow for 6 speaker output (5.1).

Cyberlink's PowerDVD 3.0 and higher is all you need (unless you have an OEM version in which case you may only have 2 channel capabilities). WinDVD is another popular softDVD player and I believe it had multichannel capability with ver 2.55 or something.

Also, I recommend using the SPDIF out feature with either one of those programs as that'll let your Audigy do the decoding of the 5.1 surround sound (which is done by the drivers of the Audigy --> software just like the softDVD players but I believe the Audigy does the decoding better.)
