USB! USB headphone, speakers, and sound cards suck! USB audio has sooo many problems iI am not going to list them. And the quality of audio from usb is poor when compaired to pluging them in to a mini jack on your pc.

Plus 5.1 headphones are really a marketing gimmick and dont really work (except for the one pair made by sony that sold for $600). Dont waste your money on them. Get a decent pair of stereo headphones instead.

A good headset I would recommend is a Plantronics DSP-500. For plain headphones, go with Sennheisser. Don't go with the 5.1 emulation or whatever that is. You'll get good surround sound with any high quality headphones. Trust me

Go dig up a maximum pc article they did on usb audio. I can remember reading at least 3 of them and all gave the 3 differant products bad reviews. Especially the usb sennheisers, they recomended you unplug them from the usb and use the phono jack directly into you sound card for better quality. USBSUCKS and is for PC newbies.

I thought you were refering to the USB sennheisers, my mistake.

A good rule of thumb is: no matter how hard marketers and manufacturers try, the best speakers and headphones will always be analogue and connect to an analogue source.

You don't think a digital output would be superior to an analog one?

Such as a SPDIF digital audio output?

No, Headphones are a 100% analogue device. Digital is best when transfering audio between componets, but not to the speakers. Some where along the way the signal needs to be analogue. Digital is nice and is good for making multiple copies, but the playback is just emulated analogue and is not truely linear like it's old cousin.

Stay away from USB AUDIO, it is more trouble than it is worth. If you want digital use a sound card with a good DAC.

Forget about 5.1 headphones, they offer lower sound quality than stereo headphones. You should check some of the Sennheisers, I'm using a Sennheiser HD595 - it sounds great for both gaming and music listening. You can find some for a good price in the Headphones: For Sale /Trade section at Head-Fi.org.

As much as these guys are against USB headsets, PC 155's are worn by the best. If not, get PC 150's, very nice model. www.ecost.com

Where did you get that info? Who's the best? Most progamers use the HD series.
