Does anybody use a surround sound (5.1 or 7.1) headset on their Xbox 360? I've really been looking into getting one to game with; I've heard that MW2 is 10 times better on a nice pair of headphones. When I look on Newegg though, it looks like they are all geared toward PC. Will any pair work?

Look for turtle beach or Astro Gaming headsets. I have a Earforce X4s and love them. Have a buddy with X3s and he loves them. I would have got the Astro, but they are a bit more pricy.

I've got a pair of Tritton AX360. They work very well with a toslink connection to my xbox 360 or PS3. It's a discontinued item though. They have a pair called the AX720 and AXPro.

I think the X41 is a little out of my price range. (The Astro are WAY out of my price range lol)

I looked around and now I'm deciding between the Turtle Beach X31 and either the Steelseries Siberia v2 or the Steelseries 5H v2. I would have to buy a $15 Xbox 360 connector for the Steelseries headsets.

The Siberia I could use on other things like my PC or a stereo because they simply use a 3.5mm connection, but I'm thinking the X31 might be the better gaming headset. The X31 is wireless which is good I guess but I sit pretty close to my TV [maybe too close] so it is really just a disadvantage at that point. The X31 I could only use for my Xbox, which is a pretty big con.

I can't make up my mind! Does anyone have any experience with any of these headsets?

Yes I saw the Tritton AXPro. They looked a little out of my price range also. They were up with the Turtle Beach X41.

I've used the x31 headset since about August. You can use them w/ anything that has an analog audio out (RCA/component). Since I use HDMI for my xbox I had to break the plastic off of the multi-out to use the headsets. The headsets work great, the battery life is 8-10 hours (I think). My only complaint is the work between the headset and the xbox controller is too loose. It's not hard to pull wire out of the heatsets or the controller in the middle of playing. The other thing is that when the batteries start to die it seems to effect the mic first, then like 10 mins later the audio gets all messed up and the set shuts off.

no. dolby headphone tries to emulate surround sound. for me they do a reasonable job too.

The higher end versions offer "true" 7.1. Those would be like the X41s and the AXPros and the Astro A40s.

The middle of the line ones like the Steelseries 5H and the Siberia and the X31s do not have all of the separate channels but still you can tell exactly where a person is. That's what I've heard anyway.

I think I'm going to order the X31s.

I've tried the X41s and they were what I would call passable. It's not the same as a discreet A/V setup and all but they work for the intended purpose. I always found myself hating them for anything other than gaming. Trying to watch a movie was terrible to me, also music...rather a quality set of studio headphones like you'd buy from a Sam Ash or similar for music. In movies there never seemed to be a true center channel so things moving across screen didn't have the same flow as on a normal home theater set. It was also somewhat hard to pick out the rears when there was action in front. On my HT I am enveloped in sound at times and can pick out bullets hitting behind me in some movies. With the X41 headphones I didn't get that same experience.

So I guess to me they work for gaming if you don't want to turn your home theater on, but for most other things I found them lacking.

I also have a Tritton AX360 hooked up to my PS3. Check out the newer 720 versions from Tritton..they generally get good reviews from the ones I've seen anyway.
