5.1 downmixing to 4.1 ?

For my next computer, I will have a 5.1 soundcard (hercules gametheater xp), but will have 4.1 speakers. I decided that the Altec Lansing 641's were the best option for me, and given their price I couldnt spend the money elsewhere. So my question is.. for multimedia with 5.1 sound (movies, games, etc), is there a way that the center channel can be mixed between the two front speakers so that I dont have to listen to it in standard stereo mode?

Thanks, as always.

Your soundcard drivers or the application program should do it automatically when you tell it to use 4-channel mode.

Yeah, I believe that unless it's Dolby Digital, or DTS you're better off with the downmixing to 4.1 because of the difference in position of the rear speakers. I use the TBSC with 4.1 speakers at the PC, and the spdif out is hooked up to my 5.1 reciever for using the tv. I found this to be the best way to set them up.
