I am currently running an asus board (not sure what model) but it is only 4xagp with xp2000 and 512 pc 2700 ram and i just got another video card 9800 pro. Was wondering if its worth it to buy an 8xagp board...prob the a78nx deluxe or the abit nf7s. Dont really care for serial ata just yet and all the other options these two boards provide

No... even with my FX5900, there was only a 100 point increase in my 3DMark2003 score going from 4X to 8X. I forgot to enable 8X AGP in the BIOS right when I installed it... so yeah, it's not really necessary, at least, not worth buying a board JUST to have an 8X AGP card.

There is virtually no loss of performnace from using agp4x. Buying a board for the sole purpose of having agp8x support makes no sense at all.

The AGP slot is used primarily for swapping texture data out of main memory. Most high end cards have tons of onboard texture memory, so they don't need to use the added bandwith of AGP8x. If you toss in a 64MB card and run a game with high resolution textures, it makes a much larger difference.

I think when new games are gonna be coming out... ie hl2, doom3... 8x will come it to play for more bandwith... but we'll see
