4x1g sticks or 2x2g sticks for 4g of ram?

Hi everyone, Im planning to get 4G of ram for my new system. But I dont know whether I should get 4x1G matched pairs (4x1G sticks) modules (like the Corsair Dominator) or 2x2G (2x2G sticks) matched pairs . Which one is better in term of performance? Also can anyone recommend any brand besides corsair? And Im talking about DDR2-800mhz or faster like DDR3-1800

My system
E6750
Asus P5K/EPU
BFG 8800GTS 512Mb
Window Vista Ultimate 32bit

If you were upgrading from 2X1024, then the cheaper upgrade to do is to add another two identical 1024mb modules. But if you're building a totally new system 2X2048 is the logical thing to do, since you might have some motherboard compatibility problem with all slots occupied, especially during overclocking.

+1, or sell your 2x1gb and buy 2x2gb.

I can speak from experience on running both kind of setups - my rig likes to run 2x2 at higher clocks (FSB and Ram) than it does with 4x1 - not sure the exact reason but past 400mhz FSB it just doesn't like to do it (at least with well OC'd memory settings)

If you're planning on running stock (CAS 5 at DDR2-800) memory on stock FSB and have a 2 gig (2x1) kit then look at getting another matching one

but you want to OC it would seem - there are some nice and tasty kits from Mushkin and G.Skill (2x2 gig) that are rated for DDR2-1000 and that should be fine for running any OC at 1:1 memory divider unless you plan on going Extreme to 4.5ghz and beyond
