4x Media in 2.4X Drive Warning? Worry?

I just opened a new pack of 4x Memorex DVD+R media and noticed a warning labeled for "2.4X Drive Owners". I read it and it pretty much said that you shouldn't use 4x media in a 2.4x drive, that it could cause data corruption, etc...

Why in the world would this be? If so, that sucks. I've burned through 50 4x discs so far and haven't noticed a problem yet, but I also haven't tried to read all of the ones I've burned. Anyway, I gotta keep burning, but hopefully I don't have to only buy 2.4x discs :-/

Thanks for all comments.

Obviously because 4x media was made after the drive was created. 4x media may have a slightly different physical layout. I do stress, might. Which maybe why it works for you.

The warning label is most likely their so the DVD+RW manufacture doesn't have to claim liability; there is no guarantee it will work with 4x media.

I got a hot deal on a 50 pack of the Memorex 4x and in order to ensure they'd work correctly with my Memorex (rebadged Ricoh) 2.4x burner I just flashed to the latest firmware and I haven't burned a single coaster :) BTW, if you look on the side of the sleeve it says they are 2.4x compatible.

Regs - Thanx. That's what I was figuring as well. Kinda dumb if you ask me, but I haven't had any issues yet...

DAPUNISHER - I'm gonna go check if my Sony drive has any new firmware and upgrade JIC. I wasn't able to see a 2.4x compatible listing on the 25-pack I ordered from Amazon... But they've worked before so oh well.

Thanks again for the comments.
