I ordered an antec sx840 with 4 case fans. 3 are 4 pin and 1 is 3 pin. Is this configuration proper or should they all be
4 pin. I will probly get something like a PAL HSF unit with an 80mm fan as well. I am getting an epox 8kha+ mb. My question is
how many 3 pin fans can i plug into the MB.

I think 2 is a safe number, as long as your initial PSU voltages are within spec with the one that's on there. Also, as long as the fans you have plugged into the mobo headers aren't high wattage. If you're plugging in something like a delta or any high speed/wattage fan, it should be plugged into the 4 pin header.

I would not plug case fans into a mobo. You should use the 4-pin molex outputs of your PS. You definitely dont want to use 3W+ fans on your mobo, as that can fry your fan headers. Most mobos have at least 3 fan headers.
