Looking at the specs of say the i3-6006U, it states 4K support. Reading some other articles suggests it can handle 4K video playback. I've rung the laptop manufacturer and they say it will handle 4K video playback. Does anyone have any anecdotes or advice to offer?

Not sure what kind of response you are looking for...it says it support 4K playback, so it does.

I have a Core m3-6y30, decoding is dependent on what you are using for playback and the codec. No problem with 4k HVEC or H264 in Media Player or VLC, while VP9 decoding is supposed to be hybrid decode so I doubt you will be able to 4k. Edge has no issue decoding 1440p@60fps VP9 with zero dropped frames, but in Chrome 1080p@60fps VP9 will drop a few frames every second. Pretty sad that MS has better support for Google's own VP9 in Edge than Google does in Chrome.

The offical processor specs state 4K support (ie. the resolution), which is not the same thing as 4k video playback/decoding.

Even the HD 4000 iGPU can playback 4k content with optimized software. But on Chrome? Forget it.

How do other browsers compare in your experience?

On Windows, Edge is by far the most optimized. Firefox is a bit better than Chrome, but both are useless for 4k playback on my Laptop.

On MacOS, Safari is superior to Edge. Temps remain as if they are idle and 4k is buttery smooth. Even Quicktime lets me playback 4k60 content on hardware much older than Windows supports. I hate to say it, but maybe a Hackintosh is best for 4k playback :p

What about netflix and YouTube on Windows, do they recommend an app to use on say Windows 10 that does deliver 4k?
