I just bought a Vizio M60-C3, and I have no complaints. I also own a Vizio M701d, which, unfortunately, is edge-lit. Edge-lit can actually be quite distracting, and on the M701d, it's noticeably slow to react. When the top and bottom are both black (like in a movie) and subtitles come on, you can see them start off being gray and fading into white. Although, my M701d is Vizio's last passive 3D model, so it wins there. Well, except when you want to move it, because it weighs 97 pounds (with stand) where the m70-c3 weighs 63 pounds.

Costco now has Samsung 65" 8500 for $2000, so does best buy. Best buy dropped 6500 to $1500 level, costco is holding on 1700. I am so glad I held off, only thing to see is if the 8500 available in stores or online only

Why would you want edge backlighting over a FALD backlighting? The M-series still will have better contrast and less light bleed. The poll is decidedly far in favor over the Vizio over the Samsung. *shrug* Your choice. Just odd to ask a question on a forum, get a pretty solid answer, then go totally against that answer.

Are all Samsung edge lit? I thought the higher end models were full array or whatever its called

The 8500 is still edge lit. Check the Samsung website. All the models listed with Full Array Local Dimming will have "Experience Richer Colors and Deeper Contrast with Precision Black Local Dimming" on the last bullet point. They're likely out of your (or just about anybody's) price range.

The JS8500 handles HDR and supports wide color gamut. It will have a better picture with UHD content despite the edge lighting. It's a better TV for someone who is going to dip into UHD.
