4k tv as monitor?

Saw that $400 deal on a 50" Vizio P8000... If I wall mount it it'll be about 4' away, should make for comfortable dpi considering I'm happy with my current 32" 1080 screen (the LG that's usually $200 on Amazon).

My question is whether it'll actually work like a good monitor... Clean text, HDR actually worth having, 4:4:4, at least the same latency for games as the LG, etc. Rtings showed it bring sketchy on activating all the good stuff at once, input lag with HDR, etc.

Is this a good deal for me or should I hold out for more mature HDR and panel tech?

Personally, I would stay far away from those cheap 4k tv's when it comes to any gaming. Personally, I can't stand playing anything fast paced like a FPS on a tv like that. I need something with a much higher refresh rate, but that's just me.

Eh, I got pretty intense with gaming in college but these days it's a casual affair that often involves a beer or two. I mostly play StarCraft 2 and a bit of Doom, dabble in other stuff occasionally. I'm plenty happy with my cheap LG 32" 1080p IPS screen, just wanted more real estate for work/movies and HDR for games/movies.

Think it's at least that good?

Only other consideration is I read something about HDMI 2.1 including a vendor-agnostic implementation of freesync/gsync. I don't care enough to spend a bunch on a gsync screen to match my 1060, but if it's gonna be part of the spec in a few months that seems worth waiting for...

I'm sure it would be fine for casually gaming every now and then. I just wouldn't be able to tolerate it personally. I feel once you experience a 144hz display, you will never go back to anything else, unless the only game you play is hearthstone lol. Linus recently reviewed a korean 144hz freensync 1440p IPS display that is only 300 bucks and is absolutely gorgeous. Considering you have a 1060 you won't really be able to game at 4k settings with that at a decent fps. Unless you need 4k for work, maybe look into a 1440p display that is a bit higher end. It will be 1000x better for gaming and still look absolutely gorgeous for movies/tv/videos etc.
