4K Trailer Stuttering

Hi

I'm trying to set my new HTPC up to play 3840x2160/4K trailers, but i'm unable to play them fluently.

My setup:
Asus Z87-K
i5 4670
8GB DDR3-1333 RAM
250GB Samsung 840 Basic

Samsung 65 F9090 over HDMI(tested 23Hz, 24Hz, 29Hz, 30Hz)

I try to play this demo trailer.
I tried VLC aswell as MPC-HC, but both dont work as i hoped.

Do i have to change the settings of the player or the graphics driver to play 4K trailers without stuttering?

I get stuttering here too but i don't have a 4K display. For those that do have 4k displays do you see a difference.

I am assuming you are using the built in video from the i5-4670 (since you do not list a dedicated video card)?

I suspect that you might be hitting your CPU's limit in terms of doing h264 (or whatever video codec your 4k video used as the encoder). While the built in video card has been shown to be able to handle 1080p, 4K has 4x the amount of pixels (thus 4x more work to do). When you run your video run a perf-meter to see if your CPU is pegged.

Anandtech reviewed the hd 4600 and they stated it should handle 4000k:

Might also be a streaming issue? Can you test with a locally stored file?

Download the Video and Play it - Shuddering is probably related to your Bandwidth after all it's almost 35Mbps ;o)

That 2min 491MB 34.1Mbps 4096x2304 res 16:9 ratio at 23.976 fps AVC High@L5.1 (1 Ref Frame) by 192 Kbps, 44.1 Khz 2 Chnl AAC MP4 file plays fantastic on my QNIX QX2710 driven with an eVGA GeForce GTX 280 that only runs at 600Mhz and has 1024 MB's of GDDR3 played from a WD 500 Black Raid 0 partition.

Platform is an ASUS P8Z68V-Pro GEN3/17 2700K @ 1600 x 4600 Mhz 1.34v/16 GB Samsung DDR3 @ 9-9-9-24 1T 1867 Mhz 1.34v/Samsung 840 256 Pro.

Gotta say the QX2710 with Samsung PLS screen is an amazing display with a very High PPI (4k PPI). It appears as if I'm actually looking out a window with a very clean pane of glass - I'm waiting to see what AMD is offering for a GPU Card come this October before replacing this Old GTX280 but for watching Video the Old Card works great ;o)
