Can anyone who owns a 4k monitor tell me if you are able to stream native 4k content from Netflix? I don't mean watch it upscaled I mean for the Smurfs, Breaking Bad, House of Cards season 2 and the nature videos you are able to select it in 4k? I seem to get 2 different answers. Someone from another forum with a Seiko 4k monitor,internet speed of 50Mbps, and a GTX 750 says he can't stream Netflix 4k. Then on Amazon reviews someone else says they can get Netflix 4k with a Samsung U28D590D.

If you can get the 4k content please list your monitor and graphics card.
 
I'm pretty sure that currently 4K works only if you stream it directly with 4k TVs Netflix app.
At least I haven't heard of a update on PC client to get it to work.

Netflix said last year that it was planning to make 4K streams available, and now it's made good on that promise. According to CNET, the streams only work on 2014 model 4K televisions that have a built-in H.265/HEVC decoder. The good news there is that the requirement covers most of the major brand TVs announced at the Consumer Electronics Show earlier this year, which are now shipping.
Unfortunately, owners of 2013 model 4K TVs are out of luck. CNET says the same will be true of upcoming 4K streams from Amazon, Comcast, Fox, and others, all of which will come out this year.
There are other growing pains to contend with. In addition to compatibility concerns, viewers are noticing signs of compression on their 15.6Mbps streams. Some have even said that 1080p streams look better - go figure.

Yeah I wonder how much payola Netflix demanded from the TV manufacturers for this to prop up the "smart TV" market.
 
Couldn't you rescue the older 4K TVs, by connecting a device (even an old laptop) that could include an H.265/HEVC decoder to receive the Netflix 4K stream? Why does the decoder have to be inside of the TV to work, as suggested here?

It doesn't have to be, they just havent released PC version of it yet.

The 6Mbit 1080p stream Netflix currently use will certainly be worse than the 15Mbit 4k stream.
They use more efficient codec for 4k and also the content for 4k will in most cases compress better.
