Although this might be more appropriate in Software since that is where most of the editor discussions are, I post this here.

RED Gallery - top center 4k

The RED team just posted a dead pixel corrected, but no other corrects of a 4.9k frame grab down-res to 8-bit jpg at 4k horizontal. Mind blowing.

You might be thinking, so what. My DSLR does even higher quality. Not at 60 frames a second, it doesn't. This was shot at 24 frames a second, I think. The RED camera will shoot at 60 in 4k and 120 in 2k. 2k is higher res than 1080p by just a bit.

Oh, and for those who seem to think that HDV is great for p0rn. Take a close look. We have had some jabs at the fact that the Makeup Artist profession is about to get a big shoot in the arm. ;)

Another oh, the model is exhaling cigar smoke. Just to clear that up for testosterone challenged ;)

Edit - Forgot, when I say pro, I mean pro. The body is $17k. Which is about 80k cheaper than its competition.

Wow. I'm not a videographer, but the fact that it has more resolution than my D200, and yet 12X the frame rate at that resolution (without ever pausing to clear a buffer), is simply amazing.

17k..eh... there are actively cooled studio camera backs with insane resolutions for similar insane prices.

so i guess the sensor is full 35mm size eh?

Yep, 35mm. Insane DOF as you can see in the 4k sample.

My office had some video magazine which featured an article on this camera about 2 months ago. It looks pretty nifty as far as features are concerned, and defintiely at the price, although complete overkill for my applications, as we generally start with all our video in 1080i59.97 4:2:2 YUV and end up downsampling as low as QSIF-5FPS for certain circumstances.

However I can imagine my boss buying one, simply because he has a budget for it, and thinks it might be usefull in the next 10 years. I do have to say it is quite the interesting looking camera. Looks more like a mars rover than a video cam.
