4K, <60FPS. Good IPS panel, or TN with G-Sync?

^Title. Looking at either an NEC EA275UHD-BK, or Acer XB280HK bprz. Currently on a Dell 2407WFP, which is an S-PVA panel, no G-Sync... So I haven't been "spoiled" by an IPS panel, or G-Sync.

On one hand, I want 4K to look as amazing as possible (which would point towards the NEC). On the other hand, my primary use beyond web browsing is general gaming (The Division, Path of Exile, etc. Probably Star Citizen at some point), which would point towards the Acer for G-Sync... No twitch shooters or E-Sports or anything, but I do game a fair bit.

*cue Fiddler on the Roof* There goes my thought process... I could be in this cycle for a while. Opinions, anyone?

XB280HK is a pretty bad display (28" Innolux TN panel). Also owned the XB280HK for a time. Trust me, there are MUCH better panels out there. Don't know much about the NEC, but I assume it shares the same 27" AUO AHVA panel that all the other 27" panels do. Only it is more expensive and does not offer G-Sync. For $50 more over the NEC, you could get the PG27AQ (27" 4K AHVA G-Sync).

For the kind of money you are considering spending ($500-900), have you considered an ultrawide? 4K will not change up you overall experience THAT much (though it will improve IQ, no doubt). Something like the U3415W for an ultrawide or possibly something 32" 4K like the BL3201PH.

Yeah, all of the reviews of the XB280HK I saw were basically "it's mediocre, but not terrible. But it's one of two 4K displays with G-Sync, so..."

I saw the PG27AQ, but I'm not sure where you're finding it for $50 more than the NEC. I'd be buying from either Amazon or Newegg, and they both put the NEC right around $700, and the PG27AQ right around $900. With the Asus (at least, according to everything I've seen), it seems to be a "panel lotto" on whether you'll have a frightening amount of backlight bleed or not (seriously, look at the Amazon customer image gallery, it's kind of scary).

Regarding the panels in question, the NEC is an IPS (not sure what brand, I thought I read it was AUO somewhere, but can't find that source now). The Acer is an Innolux TN panel. $700 is pretty much the max I'm willing to spend on a display, I haven't seen anything larger than 28" (which as far as I know, at 4K that means it's a 28" Innolux panel just like the Acer) in that price range. There's some other 27" models for cheaper than the NEC, and at that point it's just a choice between brand preference and price.

Sorry, didn't really look to carefully at prices for the NEC. I googled the panel and saw prices like ~$850 on the side and went for that. I'm just not sure I can recommend a 27" 4K for $700 with no adaptive sync. Seems like an awful lot for not that much in return. All AUO AHVA panels have QC issues and while the chance of getting a subpar panel is probably lessened with the NEC, the cost outweighs that probability. You can always send the panel back if you aren't satisfied.

When buying panels at this price and caliber, you can and should afford to be picky. You just might have to play the panel lottery a few times to get it right. Buy from a site with a good return/exchange policy.

The Acer XB271HK is 27" 4K G-Sync for $769 on Newegg. Perhaps it could be found a little cheaper elsewhere?

to be honest, there aren't any displays right now that i find exciting; you really want 120+hz with G-sync, IPS panel, and 27" or more. AND at a decent price and without quality issues. The Predator series is way to expensive.

the market is getting there, i'm hopeful that the next wave of monitors will have something like that.
