4in1 BIG TIME TROUBLES... :(

i just got the Abit KR7A motherboard, and everytime i got my OS running (98SE) and install those 4in1 drivers, ive tried the 4.33 that came on the abit CD and the latest 4.37 4in1 drivers, it totally screws over my PC and i cant do crap with it, i cant get into safe mode, it says cannot load shell32.DLL, config.sys is overpacked or something like that, ive tried really everything to get these drivers to work, if i dont install them, my OS seems to run fine, any smart people out there with some good ideas???? thanks 🙂

Why don't you just stay with the 4.33 4 in 1's??? have you tried the 4 in 1 4.36 version???

You can download the drivers as singles and update them that way....

Do you need to update them all???

no i have tried 4.33 it crashes my OS and i cant run it, ive tied 4.37 it crashes my OS and i cant run it, i have to reinstall my OS every time, but if i dont install the 4in1's, my OS works fine, once in awhile it will do some goofy stuff, otherwise without them its ok, but i need to install them to be stable, whats going on with it?

Exactly when are you trying to install them???

Are you installing the agp driver in normal mode or turbo mode???

I never use 4in1 driver from VIA since I'm running winXP. Under winXP if I installed the 4in1 driver-it made my system crash a lot instead of making it more stable.

i cant get XP on my system either, ive gotten it installed once, but when i try it again...

the blue screen of death comes in saying missing

SystemRoot\System32\ntdll.dll

or some crap like that

ive been doing it in turbo mode, then i tried it in normal when i got my OS up again, crashed it both! this really sucks... thanks, any ideas?

Man it sounds like you got a bad stick of ram that is really hosing the installs...

Also you have done a full reformat each time??? Even ran a thorough scandisk to make sure no hdd problems???

sounds like maybe some ram...I have heard if ppl have ram settings too high during os installs they get a lot of errors and hangs...I always install at default setting for ram and no ocing period...

oh ya ive done formats liek 10 times and reinstalled the OS and scan disk DEFRAGMENTing and all that, my uncle got me 2 sticks of samsung pc2100 DDR ram for my KR7A, does the motherboard take its own special type of ram, cuz he didnt calrify that it goes on the KR7a

Sounds like your issue isnt with the 4in1's but with the mobo or ram itself. Run memtest and see what happens.

omg, finally it works, i had to load the 4in1's on a different hard drive, then put it back on the original system and now it works, thats crazy, why is this?

There`ve been some reports like yours however most people can install latest VIA drivers in XP with no problems the latest 4.37 drivers only install the INF and PCI ide drivers which you can deselect on install, I`ve gone from 4.35 up to 4.37 with no problems with my WinXP Pro.

Btw I tried the new VIA 4.10 AGP driver & that seemed to give me a slight speed increase, stability is still great 🙂.
