4GB's of RAM FAILs to Post (Works fine with 3GB's)

I can't figure this out! I recently bought 2 Dual Channel kits of OCZ4002048ELDCPE-K (DDR400 1GBx4) Which is the Platinum Edition. It will post with 1, 2 and even 3 sticks of RAM installed. I even installed them Green/Green/Purple/Purple (slots on motherboard). However, when I install the 4th the CPU won't even post.

Oddly enough, I have tried swapping out each individual stick (always running 3gb's at a time) and no matter the combination, it works. Again, it only fails to post when I have all 4 in at once. I've also tried each slot individually. Oddly enough, the motherboard (with 2 or 3 installed) forces the ram to 333MHz even though the manually states it supports 400MHz.

Any ideas?

I think I see your problems. On OCZ's spec page for your RAM shows the number, 2048 in the part number, OCZ4002048ELDCPE-K says you have 2 GB sticks.

If you only paid for 1 GB sticks, someone gave you twice as much RAM as your board can support in a form factor it can't use. If you bought it new, the most direct thing to do would be to contact your vendor to ask them to exchange it. With any luck, they'll reward you for your honesty.

It is 2 1GB sticks. I may have the wrong part number. BUT 3 sticks installed = 3GB's of ram according to Vista. I wish though!

I'm lost for a solution on this one. I don't think I'll be buying MSI again. I cannot stand their tech support!! It is extremely tedious.

EDIT: That is the correct part number. I believe it is 2048 because it is a Dual Channel pack, sold in pairs.

Check your mobo manual, there is a chance it doesn't support 4 DIMM's unless it's ECC.

You will need to Down Clock to 333, and Up the Northbridge Voltage...

If that will even work.. but that is your best shot at it... Good luck...!

Post back if you get it to work.. or not.. there will be one other thing you can try.. if it does not.

Alright, any ideas on how much voltage I should put it at? Also, the motherboard forces it to 333... it is grayed out and gives me no way of adjusting it.

If you have MSN I'd really appreciate if you'd add me. I'd love to talk Hopefully you can help me solve the problem.

Has this issue running 4 X 1gb ram been resolved? I am having the same issue. I've tried running the configuration on a DFI Ultra-D, a Biostar 6100 M9, and a Asus A8N SLi with G. Skill pc3200 and pc4000 sets (each set consisting of 4 X 1, not mixed together).

The DFI and Biostar won't post but the Asus booted right up with no problem and showed the correct amount of ram at post.

I've reset CMOS before tryng to post in each board (so no oc'ing involved) but regardless of what I tried, the DFI and Biostar will not post. I get the 1 long beep error code on both boards.

I've considered a bios update but none of the more recent bios' mention anything about ram compatibility or 4gb ram issues.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

OCZ ram sucks, last night i tried putting 4x1 gb same model of OCZ on M2A-VM no post, any combination of 3 sticks worked. Then I gave up and put a pair of Corsair and Patroit and put the OCZ in garage.

The -K designation indicates that it is a kit of 2 sticks.

Try changing the 1T setting to 2T. I had to do this in order to get my machine ASUS A8N32-SLI Deluxe to boot with 4GB of memory.
