4GB + waking up from sleep (S3) = reboot

I have an Asus A8R32-MVP with an Opteron 170. I had 2GB installed, but was able to find another matching 2GB set from someone on a forum for a total of 4GB (g.skill DDR500). Prior to having 4GB, my computer would go to sleep (S3) and wake up from sleep just fine. Then after installing the second 2GB set, I noticed that the BIOS and OS would on recognize 3GB. After some research, I found I needed to enable the option 'Software Memory Hole' feature in the BIOS. After enabling that feature, the BIOS reported the 4GB as usable and the OS also was able to use al 4GB.

But now, when I try to turn on my computer from sleep, it thinks for a couple of seconds and then reboots. When Vista tries to load, it displays a message that it was not shut down properly. My system is mildly overclocked (20% - upped the fsb to 240 with 1.35v). I tried to return everything back to original and still, no dice.

Any ideas?

My system:
A8R32-MVP Deluxe
Opteron 170
4GB g.skill DDR500
Windows Vista Ultimate x64
SoundBlaster Audigy 2

What happens with 3 sticks and the memory hole enabled? And the original 2 sticks with memory hole enabled? If these fail, try the original 2 + memory hole disabled for a sanity check.

I would google "software memory hole". I seem to remember a generic problem with the concept but can't recall any specifics.

I've had a sleep problem with a 965g/e6600 the past few days. Vista32 seems to go into hibernation instead of 'normal' s3 sleep. It's difficult to get the pc booted again. I'm about ready to reload the os - what joy.

sanity was checked before posting:

1) if I disable the memory hole setting, all is well (except for the fact that I only get 3GB usable) - that's with and without overclocking.

2) if I enable the memory hole setting, regardless of whatever BIOS/system settings I have, the system will reboot when I try to wake it up from sleep.

With just the original 2gb? and with just the new 2gb?
If this is true, I'd say it's time to research this setting with vista + this mb or it might be a problem with nf4 in general.

I would also use the advanced search here for "memory hole mapping" and "memory hole". I didn't find your mb but something in these posts might lead to a solution.
