I got ASUS P5w DH Deluxe. Specs says that it can use 8GB of ram up to 800Mhz. I bought 2x 2 Corsair twinx 6400C4 (4GB together). Everything seems ok till I ran memtest. I got erros (all bios settings auto so memory ran as 667 5-5-5-15). I tested all combinations (usually min 10 hour tests)

-all 4 stick alone (no errors)

-all 4 sticks in defferent slots (no errors)

-2 sticks (sometimes errors sometimes not)

I took different brand ram (some APT systems) also 4GB 4stics 1Gb each. and... NO ERRORS !!!

So to finally check corsair I put it to different computer with some asus nvidia chipset board and no errors in all above combinations!!!

I read a lot on forums and I noticed not many people are using 4GB.
There are different opinions. Usually that with 4GB I won't be able to run it as 800Mhz.Ok I don't care as long as it's error free. Another thing I heard is that it's not good to take all 4 slots! Becasue there's buffering is heavy and for example in server board there is special memory on board to be able to use 4Gb and more. So my question is. What to do now. I'm sure I have to get rid of corsair and get soemthing new but what brand and maybe I should get 2x 2GB stics so I don't take all 4 slots. But I also read that 2GB sticks are unmature. ALso when checking compatibility on different producers site 2GB sticsk usally were compatible with ASUS P5B and this memory didn't show with my P5W? It's strange becasue I though 975 chipset is more powerful than 965. I really need 4GB RAM. WHat brand would you recommend so I don't have problems like with corsair.ANd should I get 2x 2GB or stick with 4x1GB?

I tested also many combinations from 1.9 to 2.1. RamGuy from corsair support forum recommend me running all settings auto exept voltage set to 2.0. I did that and got also error. This is really strange that with other memory my board works grat and there are no erors in memtest after 15h of tests. Also there are no errors with crcial memory but on soma asus nvida board. It's MAGIC!!!

You should exchange the 2GB sticks for 1GB and run four of them.

There is nothing wrong with running all four slots filled. It does NOT affect speed at all. That was an AMD chipset limitation. The 965/975 family will run fine with all four dimms populated.

If I needed to run 2GB sticks I'd choose a FBDIMM solution not a desktop board and run 8GB+. That's what the Cloverton systems run.

I'm running 4 sticks fine on that motherboard, I did have to back off my overclock some to keep it stable though(but the mem is still overclocked as well). I also had to manualy adjust the timings from 5-4-4-12 to 5-5-5-12.

EDIT: p.s. I am using 4x1gb PQI turbo 667mhz, slightly overclocked.
