Hello,

I have an IBM ThinkPad X41 Tablet and a T43p Laptop, built on the Intel 915GM/PM Express Chipset. Both run Windows Vista Ultimate x32. Both have the latest BIOS installed from the IBM website. The X41 currently has the max. 1.5GB of RAM using a 1GB SODIMM in the one available SODIMM slot, and the T43p also has the max. 2GB of RAM using 2 x 1GB SODIMMs in the two available SODIMM slots. I want to upgrade the X41 to 2.5GB and the T43p to 4GB using 2GB SODIMMs. I purchased one Kingston 2GB DDR2 PC4200 SODIMM to try this, but on both the X41 and T43p, this gives memory errors and the system will not work. I thought that maybe the problem was with the SODIMM, but on the T43p, if I just install the 2GB SODIMM and leave the other slot empty, the laptop works just fine. Therefore, to me it looks like the problem is just the limitation of Intel 915GM/PM Express Chipset, which can only support a maximum memory of 2GB. However, I found several listings on eBay for X41 Tablets with 2.5GB of RAM. I asked several of those sellers to tell me their secret for making the 2GB SODIMM work, but none responded. I would appreciate it if anyone in the forum that has ACTUALLY been able to install more that 2GB on an Intel 915GM/PM Express Chipset in a ThinkPad would explain to me how to achieve my goal.

Thanks,
IBM (not Lenovo) ThinkPad Fanatic.

Well from what i can find about the X41 it can only support a max of 1.5 GB RAM. If you can get it going with 2GB then you have somehow broken the abilities of the chipset. But anything i can find says the laptop is limited to 1.5Gb.

Can't find any details on the T43 but my guess is it maxs out at about 2GB of RAM.
