hey guys thanks to for the replies... i have win 32 bit and is funny i thoug upgrading to 64 would fix the issue but it seems like i should not...
HP's specs for your machine says your system came with Win 7 64 bit. The 32 bit version can access only around 3.1 GB of RAM, but it can still use anything above that for the onboard video so, as
ketchup79 said, your computer is working as it should.
here is the thing guys... the computer always used to say 3.80gb usable which make sense since it had 4gb but the problem came when i downloaded win 8 and then downgraded ever since then i had that problem... but i will try win 7 64bit.
It sounds like you installed the 32 bit version of Win 8. That would account for the difference in available RAM.
The driver download page for your machne does not list Win 8 drivers so unless HP specs your machine to be compatible with Win 8, there may be other issues, as well.
A few suggestions:
1. Unless you deleted the HP recovery partition when you installed Win 8, use it to re-install the 64 bit version of Win 7. Back up all of your files and downloads on another drive or flash drive before you do this because they will be deleted, and the system will restore your drive to the way it came out of the box. You will then have to re-install your own programs and update everything. Still, it's probably less work than trying to re-install Win 7 from a generic installation disk and having to download and install all of the drivers.
If installing Win 8 did delete the original recovery partition, but you were diligent enough to burn the recovery DVD set, you can use it do the same thing.
If you didn't burn the recovery DVD set, HP customer support will sell you a set for somewhere between $20 - $30 plus shipping. They can do this because they are not selling you a copy of Windows. The license comes with the machine so all they are doing is furnishing a new installation disk set for the license you already own.
Once you have that installation stable, you can again try to install Win 8, and you'll know to install the 64 bit version. Before you try it, I strongly recommend checking with HP and/or elsewhere on the web to see if others have succeeded at installing it on your model and how they did it.
2. As
ketchup79 suggested, buy two 4 GB sticks of RAM (8 GB total). That will maximize the amount of RAM available to run programs.
3. Finally, if you want to avoid such hassles in the future, buy an external drive and a copy of a good, free disk cloning program like EaseUS Todo, and clone an image of your drive to it. That way, if your attempt to install Win 8 doesn't work, you can restore your drive to the way it was when you cloned it.
Good luck.
