Ok, so I just learned the hard way that AVI has a 4GB limit :/ I captured a full CTF event in a game and video turned out corrupted.

Is there a way to overcome this limit? I'm using snagit, it has no option to segment into multiple files. Is there a better capture tool out there maybe?

sounds like you're either using a FAT32 file system (4gb filesize limit) or your AVI file isn't opendml 1.02

"OpenDML 1.02: This is an extension to the AVI file format that allows AVI files to be of any size"

if you go with FRAPS, i've read that it splits its files up after 4gb is reached.

using NTFS. I've tried fraps, but could not figure out how to get it to capture the screen. The most I could do is have it tell me my frame rate in games.

well the framerate display turns red after you have pushed the record hotkey, and it turns back to yellow when not recording.

but if recording still seems to not work for you, hmm, not sure

Anything else out there? I'm guessing fraps is specific to only certain types of games, as I can't get general screen capture to work. It does not respond at all when I tell it to start a capture.

Most apps I find seem to have limits on how big of a capture I can do, or how long (as they wont auto save to multiple AVI files). I need something that will capture whatever my PC can handle, hopefully for free.
