$499, Toshiba Satellite A85-S107 Notebook AR, CompUSA

Here's Dell inspirion 1200 for 499 with no rebates. 1.3 GHz, 30 Gb HD and 14" screen though. 1 year warranty is 19 extra. But you do get a free color printer, the 720.

Dell 1200

By the way, the specs on the Toshiba say battery life "up to 1 1/2 hours":Q

That's similar to the Acer that Compusa was selling around 6 weeks ago, where the battery life was also claimed "up to 1 1/2 hours" and people were getting as little as 50 minutes from a full charge.

At least this Dell claims 2 1/2 hours and up to 4 hours if you upgraded to the Li-Ion battery.

The Toshiba might be a better laptop (excluding crappy battery life) but you do have to deal with 300 in rebates.

Id take the Truebrite XGA display, the free printer, the free router, the free bag, and the free roundtrip air fair for $500 AR over the dell any day of the week.

I would too, but unfortunately this laptop doesn't qualify for all those free extras. 🙁

On my CompUsa ad it states " This price is too hot! Does not qualify for Back-to-School bundle. Quantities limited to stock on hand"

You're right. I read the fine details for the bundle, but failed to do so on the laptop.

Hey guys!
I just got one if these Toshibas over the Acer that was sold for $50 more @ CC (with rebates).
The screen and size (not too huge), and looks (well proportioned) were better for Toshiba.

So far, I works fine, even though it has 256 RAM.
For $500, you cannot get better laptop with WiFi.Battery tested for almost 2 hours.

I doubt Dell 1200 has WiFi.
Plus, based on my experience Dell is NO-GO for customer and tech service.

The note book works fine and decently priced.....
Newegg sell this for $650 and no rebates.

For this or any other notebook, CompUSA has the Canon Pixma iP1500 Color Photo Printer for $49.99; send in the $50 rebate (exp. 9/30/05) and the printer is free.
